Theistic Evolution theories result in character assassination of God

Christians who are willing to believe that God created the universe "by carefully orchestrated evolutionary steps'' put themselves in a very difficult theological position.
The theories of evolution (and there are several) basically agree that simple life evolved from non-living matter, progressed through eons of time, with death and bloodshed selecting out those creatures most fit for survival - all the way up to man.

The difficulty lies with the belief that the God of the Bible created our world in this fashion. The Scripture clearly teaches that God made everything very good, and there was no death before man's sin (Romans 5:12-14). Death was the penalty for sin, the curse of creation brought on by man's disobedience. Evolution requires just the opposite.

Furthermore, the Bible teaches that God is purposeful, efficient and orderly (Is.14:24; Eph.3:7; 1 Cor. 14:40). Evolution, supposedly operating by blind chance and random mutations, is filled with "accidents, mistakes and dead-ends.''

Scripture also teaches that God is kind, merciful and compassionate. After the Fall, He commanded that animals be well treated, fed, watered and rested regularly (Deut.25:4; Lk.13:15; Ex.20:10). When they were to be killed for food, it was to be done by bleeding them - the least traumatic fashion possible. The cruel scenario painted by theistic evolutionists portrays God as a sadist, setting up and presiding over millions of years of endless bloodshed and violent death in an innocent creation.

The Bible teaches that God is "long-suffering,'' extremely patient with the wickedness and violence of man, reluctantly judging only when he can delay it no longer. Theistic evolution teaches that God is the willing author and creator of massive destruction and extinctions in a blameless pre-fall world - the strong devouring the weak, the violent overcoming the gentle.

The Bible clearly teaches that these unfortunate evils have come upon our world as a result of man's sin - the earth was not created this way. Theistic evolution blames death and destruction on God. It is a false and unscriptural doctrine.

Anti-Christian philosopher Michael Ruse recognizes the incompatibility of these beliefs better than many Christians - "Either humankind is in a state of original sin or it is not. If it is, then there was a reason for Jesus to die on the cross. If it is not, Calvary has as much relevance as a gladiator's death in the Coliseum..''

As Christians, we are called to share with others the truth of God's world, word and character. Are you doing that? Or are you one who is guilty of assassinating God's character by clinging to the lie of evolution?
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.'' Psalm 139:23-24.
