The Bible is Unique
u·nique (y›-n¶k") adj. 1. Being the only one of its kind 2. Without an equal or equivalent; unparalleled.
Unique in its Continuity:
*Written over a 1,500 year span (over 40 generations)
*Recorded by over 40 different writers, from diverse walks of life
*Written on three different continents (Africa, Asia, Europe)
*Written in different settings (wilderness, palaces, ships, dungeons, battlefields)
*Written in deep depression and great joy
*Written originally in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic & Greek)
*Written on hundreds of controversial subjects, with harmony and agreement and no contradictions
Unique in its Circulation:
There is no book in the history of the world whose circulation remotely compares with that of the Bible. Number 2, Mao's "Little Red Book," is greatly out circulated by the Bible (8 to 1), and Mao made printing and reading his book mandatory in China!
Unique in its Translation:
The Bible has been translated, retranslated and paraphrased more than any other book in existence.
Unique in its Survival:
Being written and rewritten on perishable materials for hundreds of years before the invention of mass printing, the Bible not only continued to exist, but flourished and remained unchanged in content. The Bible, compared to other ancient texts, has more manuscript evidence than any 10 pieces of classical literature combined. In spite of many fierce organized efforts to completely eradicate it down through the centuries, it continues not only to survive, but prospers.
Unique in its Content:
Unlike other religious texts, the Bible claims that man cannot save himself from the penalty of sin by his own efforts, and that man needs a Savior - the person of God incarnate, Jesus Christ. The Bible also contains detailed predictive prophecy, much of which, to date, is 100% literally and accurately fulfilled in history.
Voltaire once said that the Bible would be "extinct" by 1850. The Geneva Bible Society bought
Voltaire's house after his death, and has been printing Bibles there to this day, barely able to
keep up with the demand!
If you are an intelligent person, you will read the One Book that has drawn more attention than any other, IF you are searching for the truth!
